Global Challenges Unresolved and Expanding
Einstein said, we are drifting towards an unparalleled catastrophe. We have a large part of humanity steeped in denial while the dangers we face are expanding. They are expanding in large part because they are not being effectively resolved.
1-The US and Russia both nuclear armed states with conflicting relations continually unresolved.
2-The US and their decades long unresolved issues with Iran and Iran’s suspected nuclear arms aspirations.
3-Iran’s support for non-state actors in the Middle East
4-Nuclear armed India and Pakistan with conflicts unresolved for decades.
5-Conflicts between Israel and the Palestinians unresolved for decades.
6-Israel’s conflicting relations with various Arab states and Iran.
7-The very tragic conflict in Yemen involving Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States and Iran.
8-The pursuit of Weapons of Mass Destruction by non-state terrorist groups.
9-US relations with Cuba was starting to improve and more recently deteriorating again due to policy changes under the current US administration.
10-The Syrian conflict involving the Syrian dictatorship, Syrian rebel forces plus the involvement of the Kurd forces, non-state actors, the US, Russia and Iran.
11-The Russian intrusions into the Crimea, Georgia and in Eastern Ukraine.
12-Nuclear armed North Korea and relations with the US and North Korea’s relations with their neighboring countries
13-The ongoing internal conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan
14-The continual spread of non-state actors perpetrating terrorist attacks in numerous countries including Libya, Mali, India, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Nigeria, Turkey, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, France, Belgium, Philippines, Germany, US, Iraq, Afghanistan, Tunisia, Israel, Spain, Jordan, Uganda, Russia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Kenya and several others.
15-The Syrian Refugee problem with millions scattered around Europe homeless with certain countries refusing them entry. Germany has helped the refugees more than any other country.
16-The violation of human rights continues to be widespread around the world. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch list staggering numbers of nations that violate the rights of their citizens.
17-The following are but a few of the nations violating human rights: North Korea, Turkey, Russia, China, Libya, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Syria, Egypt, Philippines, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Venezuela, etc. ad infinitum
18-There are numerous and growing threats worldwide related to the trafficking of people, drugs, weapons, nuclear related materials and other WMDs.
19-The continual development of new types of WMDs. Ex. Electro-Magnetic Pulse weapons [EMP], Hypersonic weapons, etc.
